Bostec was one of the hosters of National Science week 2008 the program run by SAASTA(South African Agency For Science And Technology Advancement) Funded by DST(Department of Science and Techonoly) Lots of people were invited ,amongst was Represantatives from Goverment,Members of the Public ,Leaners from Primaries and High Schools ,Traditional Doctors, Reprensantatives from various NGO's .The program Kicked off from 09 May 2008 - 18 May 2008.The main idea behind the event was to bring Science awareness to members of the public.The Following Activities were Freely Offered to Leaners ,Educators and Members of the public.

• Science Exhibits/Shows

Here Leaners and members of the public were shown how to perform experiments and given Precautionary measures on how to setup Experiments.The experiment were categoriesed in primary and Secondary school,Primary learner were shown Experiment like Polar Substance,Formation of carbon dioxide and other more funny Experiment and for Secondary learner Experiment like caddle puzzle,egg hydrometer.They were given a chance to explore for themselves.The show was enjoyable.Bostec staff was facilitating the show.




• Computer Literacy

Computer Literacy was one of the activities that BOSTEC was rendering to Learners and Community members,Learners and Community memebers were taught basic computer Computing ,The Lessons covered were :Introduction to Computer ,Computer Hardware,and word Processing(Typing).This Lesson were Facilitated by BOSTEC IT Personnels.






• Career Development

Bostec was turned into career world the whole week, Learners were given guidence in all Science and Non-Science career Fileds this include how to acquire Bursaries ,how to study(Effective Method of study), How to Choose a career, where to Persue/study one's choosen career.This was done by BOSTEC staff,and Debeers Venetia mine was also presenting careers in mining.

• Environmental Awarensess Compaign

The Campaign's aim was to educate public on how to maintain a clean environment all times,take part in the fight against the demises of our natural environment and landscape.Familiarising the public with environmental acts,policies and legislations.BOSTEC staff were educating the public with environmental pressing issues such as global warning.Familiarising the public with the environmental techniques such as basic assessment(EIA) that are prerequisites for any establishment of Projects or development of any kind.
The concepts covered were:

• Clean environment
• Global warning
• Human negative impact in natural environment
Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA)
• Public Participation Process(PPP)


• Math Puzzles

Maths Calculation were presented in the form of puzzle,the puzzles were performed in order to attract learners to develop the love of mathematics,Also for them to see why maths is important in our daily lives.Most learners were interested on how to get solutions and participating. .

• Traditional Science

Traditional Doctors were presenting how their herbs are working ,were do they get them from and career in Traditional Science.









• HIV,V.C.T and Aids Awreness Program
  

  People from Department of Health were also workshoping Learners about HIV,V.C.T and Aids.
